Social media can improve organizations’ internal communications | TMA Resources: As social media expert Steve Nicholls recently highlighted, however, there is another major advantage to the medium that many firms overlook. Social media, he argued, can significantly improve internal communications within an organization.

Speaking to Daily Business Buzz, Nicholls argued that by using social media internally, an organization or association has the potential to significantly improve its information sharing capabilities. According to Nicholls, this is an area that many firms struggle with, but it is extremely important to the overall success of the organization.

According to a survey carried out by the contact centre solutions organisation, 80 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds and 73 per cent of 25 to 34-year-olds use Facebook, Twitter and the internet to get financial, social or emotional advice.

Data in service for others

- The Washington Post: The 36-hour hackathon, held last March in the District, was organized by the recently incorporated nonprofit DataKind that looks to match nonprofits with data experts to help improve the work of charities.

By the end of the night, one child advocacy nonprofit turned a spreadsheet of data into an interactive map that shows the well-being of children by neighborhood in the District. An environmental foundation learned to use Google analytics and other software tools to understand the effectiveness of its national volunteer event.
