11 Nonprofits That Rock Responsive Web Design - NPQ - Nonprofit Quarterly

11 Nonprofits That Rock Responsive Web Design - NPQ - Nonprofit Quarterly: As more and more traffic is being driven from tablets and mobile devices, chances are that your nonprofit has at least considered taking on responsive web design. Responsive web design involves crafting your website’s layout to provide an optimal viewing experience based on the user’s device and is very important for any organization hoping to expand their online audiences, as online content is increasingly being directed from devices we use on the go. These multi-device layout templates are also driven largely by an increase in social media directing traffic; 51 percent of Facebook’s referral traffic is now driven from mobile devices.

Here are eleven examples that Nonprofit Tech for Good has highlighted as implementing responsive web design in an effective way:

Late last month, UNICEF Sweden released three commercials that urge viewers to support humanitarian aid not through posts or shares on social media, but monetary donations. The Swedish-language spots each present different variations on this theme, but by far the most harrowing stars a 10-year-old orphan speaking directly to the camera from inside a dark and decrepit room.

Regular SMS giving rules relaxed for charities

Regular SMS giving rules relaxed for charities: Rules around charities using regular SMS donations have been relaxed following a trial which found that few complaints, and much more money, was generated by a more relaxed regime.

Premium rate services regulator PhonepayPlus has announced that charities will now be able to enable their monthly SMS donors to ‘SKIP’ rather than ‘STOP’ their donations each month, with an offer to cancel now only having to be made every three months. Charities will also no longer need to get pre-approval from PhonepayPlus for transactions which are worth more than 4.50 within a week period.

The changes follow an 18-month trial of the new regime during which
150,000 donors were recruited by SMS giving and the regulator concluded
that an additional £2.7m was raised.
