TechSoup, the nonprofit technology Web site, today announced that most of its content is now available for reprint to nonprofits, schools, and libraries under a Creative Commons License.
This licensing system allows TechSoup to specify which users are granted an automatic license so that they can reprint TechSoup articles without having to ask for permission first. These users can in turn distribute TechSoup’s editorial content freely, provided they credit TechSoup.
Community-based organizations can now enhance their Web sites or supplement their training materials with content from one of the most trusted sources on nonprofit technology in three easy steps: copy, paste, and ensure the content is attributed to TechSoup.

HOUGHTON - Students in one of Michigan Tech University's business enterprise teams aren't waiting until they are done with school to get their hands on real world work.
Thanks to a gift from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, students in the IT Oxygen Enterprise are developing custom software for non-profit organizations.
The Dow Foundation is underwriting the five-year, $2 million Non-Profit Application Development Initiative, which includes $1.2 million for Michigan Tech's School of Business and Economics. The funding will be used by the enterprise to develop computer applications for nonprofit groups such as United Way."

NPower and N-TEN have announced that a new project is underway to measure the effectiveness of technology assistance for nonprofits. 'We know technology has the potential to dramatically increase what nonprofits are able to accomplish,' said NPower Executive Director Scott Schaffer. 'This project is a way to put some actual measurements behind the qualitative evidence we�ve seen as a result of our work over the past six years.'
Thanks to funding from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Cisco Foundation and the Surdna Foundation, the two nonprofit technology organizations aim to quantify how technology assistance impacts nonprofits� work over several years."

For example, the Rainforest Action Network has turned to a hosted application delivered by Berkeley, Calif.-based Get-Active Software Inc., and its online donations in December 2005 were three times higher than they were in December 2004, said Japhet Els, the nonprofit group's online organizer.
Els said the GetActive offering includes powerful tools for keeping in touch with the San Francisco-based environmental group's 34,000 donors and activists and helping them organize events and campaigns."
