NonProfit Open Source Initiative

NonProfit Open Source Initiative: "Open Source Primer

NOSI’s acclaimed primer describes what open source software is and what impact this type of software may have on the nonprofit sector.

The primer includes:
* case-studies of nonprofits of various sizes that are using open source software,
* a process for evaluating whether or not open source is right for an organization,
* and useful resources and information.

Written primarily in non-technical language, the Primer is accessible to a wide audience, including nonprofit managers with little hands-on technical expertise."

2006 Nonprofit Technology Conference Day of Service | N-TEN: The Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network: "006 Nonprofit Technology Conference Day of Service
Format for printing

What's the Day of Service?
DOS Promo01: Day of ServiceThe Day of Service is our way of giving back to the community that hosts the Nonprofit Technology Conference. At the 2006 NTC, the Day of Service will be held on Wednesday March 22.
We will be looking for:

| Individuals to volunteer
| Groups that need volunteers
| Groups that want training

The Day of Service is an opportunity for nonprofit techies to give something back to the community where the Nonprofit Technology Conference is held. Local nonprofits with a technology project that can be addressed in a single day are matched with teams of nonprofit techies who possess the appropriate skill sets. This year, we seek to match 30 groups with nearly 100 volunteers."

HOUGHTON - Students in one of Michigan Tech University's business enterprise teams aren't waiting until they are done with school to get their hands on real world work.
Thanks to a gift from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, students in the IT Oxygen Enterprise are developing custom software for non-profit organizations.

The Dow Foundation is underwriting the five-year, $2 million Non-Profit Application Development Initiative, which includes $1.2 million for Michigan Tech's School of Business and Economics. The funding will be used by the enterprise to develop computer applications for nonprofit groups such as United Way."

ABC News: You've Got ... Certified E-mail?: "The Internet (and e-mail) giants have partnered with Goodmail Systems, which will charge companies about ¼ cent to send a message that will bypass spam filters. It's expected that nonprofit organizations will pay less.

'This is an optional service,' said Richard Gingras, CEO of Goodmail Systems. 'Right now it's open to messages from businesses to their existing customers.'"

It may be a well-worn adage, but Boston TeamWorks proves there is no I in team.

The new multitenant office space for local youth sports organizations is blazing a path for the way nonprofit organizations do business.

The great thing about Boston TeamWorks is that it is a collaboration of six nonprofits sharing space. We have common technology and storage, said Melissa Harper, executive director of Good Sports, a Boston TeamWorks participant.
