New Communications Review » Blog Archive » University Admissions Blogging Best Practice Video Series - Part 1 - Rob Pongsajapan: "The 2005-2006 academic year saw many institutions launch blogging efforts as a way of recruiting new students. Many of them hired students to do the blogging - in effect, using blogging as a student-to-student recruiting tool.

In the coming days, I'll be publishing four interviews connected to the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR) university admissions blogging best practice study I've been running with Rob Pongsajapan of Georgetown University. Rob was an early observer and commentator on university admissions blogging, and we're thrilled that he's agreed to help with this study."

Kansas City Business Journal - 9:17 AM CST Thursday

Community Resource Network, a nonprofit organization set up a dozen years ago to provide discounted Internet services to Kansas City's nonprofit community, no longer will sell Internet access and Web-hosting after this year.

CRN is exiting those business lines to focus on software development, Executive Director Ken Ortbals said Wednesday. To smooth the transition for the 250 nonprofits CRN serves, Kansas City-based Computers & Tele-Comm Inc. took all 13 of CRN's computer servers on Dec. 8 and already has started serving its customers."

Wired News: Bloggers Shrink the Planet

Wired News: Bloggers Shrink the Planet: "Exciting things happen when dedicated bloggers from around the world meet for the first time. For Briton Rachel Rawlins, being introduced to Tunisian exile Sami Ben Gharbia was the chance to meet a personal hero.

Gharbia is the creator of the Tunisian Prison Map -- an idea inspired by a New York Times interactive map charting murder locations in New York City. Gharbia turned the concept on its head: Instead of showing government figures on crime, he'd display where his former government was behaving criminally, imprisoning political dissidents for daring to speak out."

Even those with just a passing familiarity of the Bible know that 'for everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.'

Few, however, would have foreseen the opening verse of Chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes as a premonition of ATMs in churches.

Marty Baker, lead pastor at Stevens Creek Community Church was among that small group keeping an eye on possible changes in how worshipers financially support their faiths. Three years ago, Baker decided it was the appropriate time for Stevens Creek to embrace electronic giving, and he created a company to produce ATM-like kiosks where congregants can use plastic to tithe."

GoodSearch com A Good Search Alternative: "In the spirit of the season, one search engine deserves some special consideration. For every query made through GoodSearch.com, a small donation will be made to (more or less) the charity of your choice.

Potential Grinches need not worry about the quality of search results. Because GoodSearch is powered by Yahoo, Yahoo users will feel right at home. And if you use Google, Ask, or something else, well . . . give this a try, anyway."
