February 27, 2015 — Three Boston area nonprofits will each receive a donation exceeding $82,000 from reddit, a social networking service and news website, sharing 10% of the organization’s gross 2014 ad revenue with seven other nonprofits nationwide.
Last week, reddit, which that brands itself as “the front page of the Internet,” announced that it would donate the funds to 501(c)(3) organizations by asking its members to vote over the course of a week for charities included on the Charity Navigator database. "

Social Giving IRL (In Real Life) for Nonprofits - NPQ - Nonprofit Quarterly
Social Giving IRL (In Real Life) for Nonprofits - NPQ - Nonprofit Quarterly: "Not all social giving IRL has to be tied to hosting a gala or 5K. People gather in places for lots of other reasons, and those are opportunities for the right charities with the right tools. The growth rate of U.S. adults with Internet-enabled phones (already surpassed two-thirds of the population) is huge; most donors can now give wherever they are rather than waiting to get to a desktop screen somewhere. New tools are just now coming into the market, with more players and ideas likely to join soon."
