Dell, University of Texas empowering entrepreneurs — blog | Austin Business Journal: "For the fifth consecutive year, Dell and UT’s RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service are teaming on the 2011 Dell Social Innovation Competition, with more than $100,000 to be awarded to turn innovative social concepts into new businesses or nonprofits. The program, which seeks students with groundbreaking ideas to improve areas of critical human need, is open to higher education students worldwide."

A new national survey by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project has found that 75% of all American adults are active in some kind of voluntary group or organization and internet users are more likely than others to be active: 80% of internet users participate in groups, compared with 56% of non-internet users. Moreover, social media users are even more likely to be active: 82% of social network users and 85% of Twitter users are group participants."

Filmmakers Get Hands-on Experience Helping Local Nonprofit | BU Today: "The graduate students’ project was part of a regional competition sponsored by 7DayPSA, which seeks to bring together local filmmakers and nonprofit organizations. The goal of the program is to provide nonprofits with limited budgets with broadcast quality PSAs while giving young filmmakers a forum to showcase their work. Commitments are obtained from local media outlets to air the winning spots for a year."

So this year Pepsi is eliminating Refresh Project’s biggest $250,000 grant category, the Wall Street Journal reports, the source of many of these complaints."
