Text Messages Aren't Enough When Natural Disasters Strike | Fast Company: The American Red Cross has released a new survey that claims Americans are increasingly relying on the Internet and social media for disaster information. According to the Red Cross, 18% of Americans regularly rely on Facebook to obtain disaster information. The survey also claims that the Internet is the third most used medium to find out information about disasters--radio and television are more frequently used.

Until then, nonprofits were limited to simply claiming their nonprofit’s Venue Page making it almost impossible to be proactive on Foursquare. However, in recent weeks the site has made a number of upgrades that have rendered the site and it’s tool set much more interesting and relevant to the nonprofit sector. That said, I have just launched a new Page for Nonprofit Organizations on Foursquare at foursquare.com/nonprofitorgs where I’ll be using “Tips” to promote nonprofits and cause to the Foursquare community:

Of course, the donor who gives online (and there are more of them all the time), does receive an immediate emailed thank you. That is built into the online donation system, whichever one you use.
