Putting XO Laptops Under Christmas Trees—and into Classrooms—via Amazon | Xconomy: "Under the Give One, Get One (G1G1) program, consumers can buy two laptops for $399. One will be shipped to a school of OLPC’s choice, and the other to any recipient of the buyer’s choice. Part of the purchase price is tax-deductible—though OLPC says buyers should consult their accountants to figure out how much."
The Giving Map (washingtonpost.com)
The Giving Map (washingtonpost.com): "The Giving Map
In this holiday season of particular economic hardship, charitable giving is critical to many in our region. The Giving Map is designed to make it fast and easy to connect you with a nonprofit organization that helps others and fits your areas of interest, whether that's hunger and homelessness or arts and education. The D.C. region is home to many with considerable resources, and others with few. We hope those who can afford to help others will find this tool useful."

Techies volunteering to save the world - Network World: "Whitney is just one of a growing number of seasoned IT professionals trading in annual bonuses and executive perks to volunteer their time and expertise in developing countries. In fact, phone calls and e-mails from techies interested in registering with Geekcorps have increased 30% over the past year, says Karen Muir. 'We have more geeks now than we have projects,' she admits."

Connection Café: Social Media For Social Good: Follow Up
Connection Café: Social Media For Social Good: Follow Up: "I hope you all had a chance to join us yesterday for our webinar called Social Media for Social Good. Emily Riley from Forrester Research and Beth Kanter from Beth’s Blog both gave great presentations that really complimented each other. If you missed it, you can register to receive the recording at http://www.convio.com/socialgood.
I’d like to extend my thanks to Emily and Beth for participating, and to all of the audience for your good, insightful questions. We had so many that we couldn’t get to all of them during the webinar, so we’ve answered the overflow here:"

A new AFP Partnership
AFP has launched a profile on “ammado” (www.ammado.com). ammado is an online community connecting nonprofits, socially responsible companies, and engaged individuals who want to effect change at a global and local level.
This blog first made mention of ammado last year when the site was used to network attendees of the International Fundraising Conference in Amsterdam (October 2007). Of particular interest is ammado’s global donations feature, the ammado Giving Circle which allows people to donate to their favorite nonprofits from all over the world. Donors can choose from 33 different currencies for their donations, and even the smallest contributions are displayed in an innovative and appealing new way. All nonprofits, big or small, national or international, can join ammado for free. Check out the AFP profile, at http://www.ammado.com/nonprofit/afp, also the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy at http://www.ammado.com/nonprofit/afpfoundation.
AFP is now partnering with ammado to help members network with colleagues around the world. To celebrate the partnership and the season of giving, ammado will give the first 10,000 AFP members who create a profile on ammado an e-voucher for $1.00 to spend on the cause of their choice. What can a mere dollar do? One dollar can, for example, get a child vaccinated against the measles or provide safe drinking water for a child for 50 days. Get your e-voucher, make a donation—even to your own organization on ammado—join the AFP profile and reach out to your fundraising colleagues by creating your network! AFP members can use this link to get started.
If you have questions about this partnership feel free to contact mnilsen@afpnet.org

The Santa Barbara Independent Tech Mogul Brings Laptops to Kellogg Kids: "D.J. Perry’s third-grade class at Kellogg Elementary School in Goleta buzzed with excitement on Friday, December 5, as students clicked away on their new XO-brand laptops. The textbook-sized computers were provided to the school by UCSB’s Technology Management Program and its new partnership with One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) a Massachusetts-based nonprofit that aims for education through technology for the world’s poorest children."

Going from a Print Newsletter to an Email Newsletter - Webinar This Thursday - Get the Details
It seems like every nonprofit I’ve talked to in the last few months is either dropping their print newsletter entirely or carefully considering ways to cut back on the expense of publishing it (e.g. publishing fewer pages or printing fewer copies)."
