United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Google Earth

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Google Earth: "The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has joined with Google in an unprecedented online mapping initiative. Crisis in Darfur enables more than 200 million Google Earth users worldwide to visualize and better understand the genocide currently unfolding in Darfur, Sudan. The Museum has assembled content—photographs, data, and eyewitness testimony—from a number of sources that are brought together for the first time in Google Earth.

Crisis in Darfur is the first project of the Museum’s Genocide Prevention Mapping Initiative that will over time include information on potential genocides allowing citizens, governments, and institutions to access information on atrocities in their nascent stages and respond."

Idealware: Introduction to Screencasting: "An Introduction to Screencasting

By Beth Kanter, March 2007

Screencasts – movies that capture tasks performed on a computer – can be powerful communication and training tools, and you don’t need to be a Hollywood filmmaker to create them. Beth Kanter walks through why screencasts are useful, how to create them, and some of the software tools that help in the process.

If you provide end-user technical support, people likely ask you about the same software tasks over and over again. What's more, you've probably discovered that not everyone responds well to text or verbal instructions. What if you could send those people a brief video showing the procedure, accompanied by your voice walking through the important concepts?"

CAE Weblog: N-Ten & DigitalNow: "N-Ten & DigitalNow

This just seems to be association technology conference season with the N-Ten Conference in DC last week and DigitalNow this week. These are both good meetings but what a contrast. N-Ten does an amazing job of building a huge event with a wide variety of technology topics. Rusty Burwell from the American Lung Association and I did a session on sharing fundraising data across large organizations with local-national issues and siloed data sources."

More of the faithful give through the Internet, donate with plastic

Welcome to religious giving in the 21st century.

No longer do Americans have to write checks or dig into their wallets for crumpled dollar bills when it comes time to make donations. These days, churchgoers and those of other faiths increasingly are wiring contributions via the Internet or making them with the swipe of a credit or debit card.

The trend, which allows members to give at any time and without attending a service, is not without controversy. Some religious denominations, for example, have strict limits on credit-card usage and require that they be paid off every month. Others don't want donors to go into debt to make contributions."

Tim O'Reilly's and Jimmy Wales' call for a blogging code of conduct, including an 'anything goes' badge for sites, sure has raised a ruckus. His idea is understandable in the wake of the recent Kathy Sierra incident, in which the prominent blogger received death threats on another blog."
