Exempt Organizations Select Check: Exempt Organizations Select Check

Exempt Organizations Select Check is an on-line search tool that allows users to select an exempt organization and check certain information about its federal tax status and filings. It consolidates three former search sites into one, providing expanded search capability and a more efficient way to search for organizations that:

Communities: Real and Imagined by Quintus Jett of Rutgers University | Community Techknowledge

Communities: Real and Imagined by Quintus Jett of Rutgers University | Community Techknowledge: I've seen many nonprofit organizations struggle with how to harness the growing capabilities of social media to build community and resources. More extensive use of Internet applications to reach others is apparent - Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, email , and text messages are informing stakeholders about the latest organizational news - yet what further steps should be taken? In email broadcasts and online campaigns, many nonprofits refer to a community of supporters. What strategies should be employed when this reference to “community” is more hopeful than real? Setting and meeting higher expectations of social-media use begins with how nonprofit managers conceive of stakeholders online, and then engage with them.

Charities make the world a better place, and they often do it on shoestring budgets with staff and volunteers who are already stretched thin. With the time, people and money these organizations have already dedicated to mission-critical work, it's no wonder charities often make websites a low priority.

But they shouldn't. A website is a powerful marketing tool. It's one of the best ways for charities to attract new supporters, particularly young people in high school, university or just entering the workforce. It's often the first point of contact for your future donors and volunteers. When someone visits your website, they get to know a bit more about how they can support your organization.

NJ Spotlight | Giving Site Makes It Easier to Volunteer for Health Charities: This nationwide philanthropic organization is likened to United Way, because Community Health Charities (CHC) raises money from employees during annual workplace campaigns. The money CHC raises -- about $65 million last year, including $1.3 million in New Jersey -- goes exclusively to charities devoted to health, disease prevention and research. CHC’s 58 member charities include the American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, the American Diabetes Association and the AIDS Research Foundation.

Homeless people turned into walking wi-fi hotspots at $2 per 15 minutes at SXSW | Mail Online: A marketing stunt where homeless people were turned into walking internet hotspots with T-shirts proclaiming 'I'm a 4G hotspot' has caused outcry in Texas.

Branding agency BBH was forced to defend its 'Homeless Hotspots' initiative after it was described as 'dystopian' - and lambasted as a 'shameful, hideous, patronising, dehumanising idea' by British brand strategist Luke Scheybeler.

Why You Don't Need To Be Like Kony 2012 To Tell Your Nonprofit's Story On YouTube | Co.Exist: World changing ideas and innovation

Why You Don't Need To Be Like Kony 2012 To Tell Your Nonprofit's Story On YouTube | Co.Exist: World changing ideas and innovation: While you can’t argue with 70 million hits (and counting), it shouldn’t take a multi-million dollar production/promotion budget to send a powerful message. Just ask YouTube, which on Wednesday announced the inaugural class of its Next Cause program, a group of 20 nonprofits “who’ve demonstrated passion and huge potential for using YouTube to further their causes.” And while none of these videos possesses the scope, narrative command, or budget of Kony 2012, that doesn’t make their causes any less worthy. And furthermore, if you can tell your story through a few days’ work and the copy of iMovie that came pre-loaded on your Mac, then it frees up resources to put toward, you know, actually doing the things people are giving you money to do.

CNN Rumored to Buy Mashable for $200 Million: Well, well, well. A ‘little bird’ apparently informed Reuters reporter Felix Salmon that CNN is buying Mashable, a blog that covers social media-related news, a lot of lists about anything from the funniest cat videos of the day to the most pinteresting Pinterest pinboard of the hour and whatnot, often with the CAPS Lock key turned on for the headlines, for “upwards of $200 million”.
