Iowan helps provide high-tech eyes of disaster relief in Philippines | Des Moines Register Staff Blogs: Harwath is one of four Global DIRT members currently on the ground in the Philippines. The nonprofit has had as many as a dozen people working there in recent weeks, plus a pair of dogs trained to nose through the debris in search of human survivors and remains.
Harwath’s specialty with his background in video is to help serve as the eyes of disaster response advance planning for any nonprofit, non-governmental agency or nation that wants to lend help. Think of your typical streel-level Google Maps view, then imagine that concept not with still images but with 360-degree video footage that shows 30-foot-tall piles of rubble where entire city neighborhoods once stood.
